Blog > Are Vocal Warm Ups Necessary?

Yeah, I think so. That's a fo sho fo sho! In fact, I'm willing to state a daily vocal warm up is one of the most important things to do as a singer if you want to improve. More accurately, it's a vocal work out. It's simple. It's about muscle memory. You tell your body to do the same thing for ten minutes every day. You sing the same scales and silly words and phrases ad nauseum. You become so sick of it, you can't help but let go of your attachment to "do I sound good?" and you just sing. You just do. After two weeks, you notice your voice just seems more solid. After six months, you wonder how you all of the sudden got so damned good at singing. I'm serious! It works! Think of it as training for an event, like training for a marathon. You don't start with 26.2 miles, you start with mile one. You do this left right, left right thing every day. After four to six months, you run your race. Boom!
